Phone Call Meeting between H.E. Mr. Haneef Atmar, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and H.E. Mr. Mitsuji Suzuka, Ambassador of Japan to Kabul.

Newly appointed acting Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, H.E. Mr. Haneef Atmar shared a phone call conversation with H.E. Mr. Mitsuji Suzuka, Ambassador of Japan to Kabul. On behalf of the people and Government of Japan, H.E. Ambassador Mr. Suzuka congratulated H.E. Minister Atmar on his recent appointment as Foreign Minister. Further he intimated that Japan fully supports the Afghan-owned and Afghan-led peace process and hopes that it will make substantial progress under the leadership of the inclusive government and its goodwill as was notably evident in the recent release of the Taliban Prisoners by the Afghan Government.

In return, H.E. Mr. Atmar expressed his hope and expectation for the strong bilateral relations between Afghanistan and Japan to not only continue but improve and develop exponentially. Further, H.E. Mr. Atmar explained Afghanistan’s current concerted efforts to fortify an inclusive government and assured that its efforts to do so are ongoing. The two gentlemen further discussed the ongoing challenge of managing COVID-19 and the need of jointly tackling the crisis together.
