Ambassador Abdali Met with Deputy Director-General for the Middle Eastern and African Affairs Bureau of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan

On July 12, 2021, Ambassador Shaida Mohammad Abdali had a meeting with Mr. Kansuke Nagaoka, Deputy Director-General for the Middle Eastern and African Affairs Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan. During the meeting, they discussed the security situation in Afghanistan, including the raising violence by the Taliban and its humanitarian consequences, as well as, the potential threats that foreign militants operating in Afghanistan under the umbrella of the Taliban can pose to international security. They also touched upon the current state of the peace process and the way forward, and discussed the importance of enhancing regional and international consensus for a negotiated settlement of the conflict in Afghanistan.

The two sides also exchanged views on the critical role that the United Nations can play in the Afghan peace process and stressed the need for the continuation of international community’s civil and military assistance to Afghanistan after the withdrawal of the international troops.
