Ambassador Abdali Met with the Governor of Fukuoka Prefecture
On July 9, 2021, Ambassador Abdali had a meeting with Mr. Seitaro Hattori, Governor of Fukuoka Prefecture. During the meeting, Dr. Abdali reaffirmed the commitment of the people and Government of Afghanistan to building upon the legacies of Dr. Nakamura, including through making a film on his life and projects in Afghanistan and the establishment of sister city relationship between Jalalabad and Asakura cities to expand cultural exchanges and economic ties.
The two sides also discussed ways to expand trade ties between Fukuoka Prefecture and Nangarhar province and touched upon other important issues, including the continuation of collaboration between Fukuoka Prefecture and the National Olympic and Paralympic Committee of Afghanistan and efforts to replicate Dr. Nakamura’s irrigation method across Afghanistan.
Mr. Hattori welcomed the efforts of the Government of Afghanistan for making a film on the late Nakamura’s life and added that Fukuoka Prefecture remains committed to working with the Embassy of Afghanistan in Tokyo, JICA, and the PMS team towards actualization of issues discussed during this meeting.
Mr. Najibullah Safi, Counselor of the Embassy, staff members from South Asia Division 2 of JICA, and JICA Kyushu also participated in this meeting.
