Ambassador Abdali Met with His Swedish Counterpart
On August 12, 2021, Ambassador Shaida Mohammad Abdali met with H.E. Pereric Högberg, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Sweden to Japan. During the meeting, they spoke about the bilateral relations between Sweden and Afghanistan and discussed the dire humanitarian situation in Afghanistan caused by the Taliban’s offensive, including high number of civilian casualties and increasing civilian displacement, serious violation of human rights, and destruction of public infrastructures in areas that have fallen to the Taliban.
The two sides also shared concerns over continued ties between the Taliban and regional and international terrorist networks and the presence of foreign fighters in Afghanistan operating under the umbrella of the Taliban and stressed the need for continued international support to the Afghan defense and security forces to address the security threats these groups could pose to the stability of the region and beyond.
