8 July 20201 – During the first day of his visit to Fukuoka Prefecture, Ambassador Abdali met with Mr. Masaru Murakami, Chairman of Peshawar-Kai and Peace Japan Medical Services (PMS). At the outset, Ambassador Abdali expressed, on behalf of the Afghan people and Government, his sincere gratitude to the late Dr. Nakamura Tetsu and the PMS team for their immense contribution to the development of irrigation canals and provision of health services in eastern Afghanistan. He also noted that “it is the shared responsibility of the Afghans, PMS team, and the people of Japan to continue Dr. Nakamura’s path after his death and work together to actualize his dreams.”
The two sides also spoke about the ongoing projects of PMS in eastern Afghanistan and discussed ways to replicate Dr. Nakamura’s irrigation method in other parts of the country.
During the meeting, Ambassador Abdali informed the PMS team that the Ministry of Information and Culture of Afghanistan is planning to make a film on Dr. Nakamura’s life and projects in Afghanistan and emphasized that the completion of this film would require cooperation from both the Afghan and Japanese side. He also proposed to create a sister city relationship between Nangarhar and Omuta cities to expand cultural exchanges and economic ties.
Mr. Murakami welcomed these proposals and reaffirmed the continuation of PMS’s projects in Afghanistan.
